Responding to Denise’s Six Sentence Story challenge at girlieontheedge blog with the prompt word hollow
Bernadette, pouring Percy a second pint of Doom Bar enquired “ Mythos and Logos, I assume that’s all about ancient myths and refers to John’s gospel, in the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God, as embodied in Jesus Christ”.
Percy gratefully accepting his pint took a sip and replied “ Yes, that’s right, except when I say Logos I’m referring to the Greek philosophical meaning and not it’s religious meaning, my background after all is in classical history”.
Bernadette, looking thoughtful, replied “ From my university days studying theology I remember Thomas Aquinas, a Doctor of the Catholic Church, was also keen on the Greek philosophers especially Aristotle, and introduced many of his ideas into the Catholic faith and left out those which did not conform to Christian doctrine”.
Percy, enjoying the moment, and the conversation, and the company of a good looking barmaid, took another sip of his beer and answered “ Have you read any of the books by British author, Karen Armstrong, she goes deeply into this topic, though she is a little controversial, and some critics are a little hollow in their approach, criticizing her emphasis on religion, as the Golden Mean, and an ethical and compassionate pathway rather than doctrinal”.
Bernadette looking around noticed the pub starting to get busy and felt a little guilty indulging herself to the detriment of other customers, putting an unfair burden on the rest of the staff.
She gave Percy a smile and exclaimed “ Thanks for such an interesting conversation, maybe we can continue it another time, I have to earn my keep and attend to the other customers, I’ll be sure to look up Karen Armstrong, she sounds interesting”.
